Kirk Sinclair earned a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut; a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Eastern Connecticut State University; a Masters in Science Education from Cornell University; and a Doctorate in Natural Resources from Cornell University. During that time he also accumulated minor concentrations of credits in Sociology, English, Statistics, Chemistry, Urban Studies, Ecology and Environmental Information Technologies. Kirk has been a teacher in both traditional and alternative education settings at the elementary, high school, college and university settings. On his last day as a high school teacher the student body gave Kirk a standing ovation during an awards assembly, though whether this was out of gratitude or relief he never knew. Trained as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) specialist, Kirk created and managed the GIS Department for the Housatonic Valley Association, a nonprofit conservation organization. He has presented at international, national, regional and local forums regarding GIS applications and natural resource issues. Kirk has received awards for teaching, research, singing, writing and long-distance backpacking. In 1985 Kirk was the third person to achieve the Triple Crown of long-distance backpacking, having organized the first successful expeditions to backpack the Pacific Crest Trail and Continental Divide Trails, in addition to having backpacked the Appalachian Trial three times. Kirk’s then fiancée Cindy Galvin hiked the Continental Divide with him and they still married afterwards, perhaps Kirk’s greatest accomplishment to date. Kirk and Cindy have three children. Noah, Charissa and Serena get their good looks and charisma from their Mom. They refuse to comment on what they got from Dad.
