Antimony, Utah is one of the most secluded towns in the country. Mainly a ranching community, Antimony was the last town in Utah to get electricity. We were the beneficiaries of some noted kindness in Antimony. The owner of the Rockin’ R Ranch kept driving by us as we were walking through town, until Burns Black stopped to invite us to stay at his dude ranch.
The first thing to strike me about the community was the proactive way in which the community center in town was trying to keep the community in tact. They obtained an Internet connection in this remote town for the sake of providing opportunities to telecommute, rather than have folks commute or have a migration away from town for work.
You could see this dedication to community and their community spirit everywhere. We got into several nice chats with locals as we were hiking along through town; we learned of the community events held by the local Mormon church (every small town in Utah has one).
