Up until now I was struggling with what to call the type of kindness I am featuring. I don’t like “random acts of kindness” because such acts are often part of a premeditated movement, suggesting that one has to be programmed as with an exercise regimen to engage in kindness. I also refrain from portrayals of kindness as heroic, or from portraying any person as being “heroic” in their kindness.
Kindness is an everyday thing that happens all the time when one knows where to look or how such kindness is induced. We have empathy, which means certain situations will trigger a kind response. Response is the root of responsible, and indeed some situations call for kindness as the responsible thing to do.
This points to “responsive” as the type of kindness the world needs to recognize as being a part of human nature. An example of Responsive Kindness is this recent report of people rallying to a mother’s need to get treatment for her child.
I’m changing the name of the Kindness Blog to Responsive Kindness.
