One of our favorite stops along our 5,000 mile journey was Grand Pass, Missouri. We’ve been in touch with Christy Windmeyer from there ever since. Today she sent this along to me.
“(Our nephew and niece” have two small boys. They attend a small United Methodist church there and really enjoy the family atmosphere. ….. On Christmas Day one of their very good friends, age 63, from church who was sort of our nephew’s mentor there–and in everyday life, too, it seems — had a massive heart attack and died. Needless to say this little church was shocked and (our nephew) has really struggled to make it through. He would take his boys out to this guy’s farm and help him and let the boys have a taste of farm ….
(Our nephew and niece) have decided, as a tribute to and in honor of their friend’s life and the way he lived it helping others, to do 63 random acts of kindness for others. They are always helpful and generous anyway, but by doing things intentionally as a memorial to him, they are starting the healing process and will continue to without getting all bogged down by their grief.”
I should add that the good folk from Grand Pass also have made a quilt for one of the Hurricane Sandy victims. Thanks for sharing that Christy!
