This past week I received some feedback kindness. Our friend Rocky Rockwell sent us the following picture, taken near where he lives.
Mary Ann Nissley, a long distance hiker, emailed me her following take on kindness from her travels.
One act of kindness has always stood out for me. I was hiking the Bruce Trail in Canada and met a lady jogging along. When we stopped to talk, she invited me to her home. She washed my clothes, gave me a delicious meal, let me take a shower, and asked me to stay the night. As she was making me breakfast in the morning, her husband called and said to turn on the tv. There I watched the devastation of 9/11. It was horrible to be in another country while all this went on in my country. Every Canadian I met told me how sorry they were for USA. I heard so many people say, “What can I do for you?” There wasn’t anything they could do, really. When I finished my hike, I took a bus almost back to my car. The bus driver said to sit back down and he drove his bus with all his passengers right back to my car. There’s no way to thank people like that. You can only pass it on.
While I was hiking the fingerLakes Trail in New York, many people I met along the way invited me to their homes. One family, in particular, left me a note in the register, saying their house was the first one after I crossed a road. They had heard I was hiking the trail. Although they were not home, they said I could go to their house, eat anything in their fridge, take a shower , and spend the night. What can I say? It boggles my mind. So many acts of kindness. Most people are good. I have so many tales like those that it would fill a book. Hope you enjoyed these two little stories of peoples’ kindness.
As I keep saying, kindness abounds! Please share your tales of kindness.
