This past weekend we hosted a few AT Thru-hikers: Laura from Tennessee and Kyle and Melissa, recent graduates from Indiana University. We had a delightful time with them and got to know Laura pretty well. She has a passion for doing good for humanity.
But this post is not really about them.
As I went to pick up Kyle and Melissa at the Iron Bridge in Falls Village, I saw a flyer posted on the bridge about Kaelan, a young lad who drowned near there. He and other boys were swimming in the Housatonic River after school. One of the boys got trapped by the strong river current. Young Kaelan rescued the boy that was trapped and lost his own life in the process. A few years later he was still in the memory of his classmates and they posted that flyer.
One day later Kaelan’s mom contacted me on my facebook page. Here is part of what she shared.
I once came up a nickname for each of our kids, with the first letter of their name, so did Lovely for Linnea and Kind for Kaelan..his life story sadly came to an earthly end when he was 16, but he is remembered for his kindness, trying to save a friend from a river
Here’s a tribute to Kind Kaelan, the caring and courageous boy who lost his life for the sake of another.
