OK, I’m a day late with my greeting (typical). More the pity, considering the occasion and the sentiment.
The occasion is our independence from centralized rule and the opportunity for colonial agrarians to focus on their local community, with a good measure of autonomy not seen since the advent of the nation state. This is truly what makes our country special.
The sentiment is, what else, to BE HAPPY! We want people to be safe on the Fourth of July, but being happy is foremost. Come to think of it, we don’t wish each other “Save Thanksgiving” or “Safe Christmas” either.
So on this special day (that was really yesterday but cut me some slack), let’s truly be happy that our forefathers saw fit to revive the autonomy and vibrancy of community.
