Days 157-158 – 10/28-29/11 – Arkansas River Road

Kendall to Holcomb; Distance = 42 Miles; People Met = 0

Two days without meeting anyone in Kansas?  How can that be?  For one thing we were mainly on the sparsely trafficked River Road that parallels the Arkansas River, US 50 and the railroad.

We did see a few people, but none from whom we got their names.  We actually had more conversations with animals on this stretch.

That’s not to say we did not benefit from kindness once again.  In Lakin, Ky brought us to the Ken-Ark motel, because of a town initiative to accommodate wayward travelers.

The next day in Deerfield I forgot to bring a knife for spreading peanut butter.  Not to worry.  Though the town appeared all but deserted a few folks were getting ready for a baby shower in the town’s Community Center and happily obliged us.

I should have got their names (and a cupcake!)

That same evening Ky picked us up to stay at the Community Congregational Church in Garden City.  Though we did not see anyone at the church this evening, tomorrow I would be giving a presentation on the church’s Mission Sunday.
