We finished California during this stretch. A manager of a supermarket on the Nevada side of Tahoe warned us that Nevada would be boring. We then witnessed our most beautiful day of hiking, though I spoiled things a bit by going six miles out of our way.
Much of the beauty involved looking back at Lake Tahoe and the Crystal Range, though the Carson Range offered it’s own beauty. There was still a good measure of snow which provided some glissading fun and quenched our thirst.
More photos of our first Nevada day will be put on the facebook fan page.
A rest day in Carson City enabled me to prepare the maps for Nevada and the California edition of the newsletter. That edition will come out on June 25 so sign up if you haven’t already. The Carson City Library was not only most accommodating; they called in a reporter to do a story for the Nevada Appeal as well. Thank you Teri Vance!
Humanitarian hikers stop over in Carson City
This article paid dividends when we arrived in Virginia City and the BLM office and the Community Chest already knew about us. Tomorrow begins the first of three high mileage stretches.
