Bethel to Williamsburg; Distance = 12 Miles; People Met = 7
Since we had plenty of time ahead of us to make 12 miles we started the day off with a breakfast buffet at a Frisch restaurant in Bethel, a continuation of Cindy’s birthday celebration. With free wifi at the restaurant I caught up on the emails sent to me after the latest email update I sent out.
The Buckeye Trail was indeed a trail in this section. Before the trip started I thought this was where we would encounter the most snow and we even carried snowshoes in the support vehicle for this possibility. With the warm winter weather trail conditions have skipped over winter and onto early spring. In other words, we encountered wet and mud. There was one large stream crossing that led to wet feet.
We managed to meet a few people. We spoke to a young family in a neighboring booth at the restaurant. Melanie helped us out with directions at a point where we got off the trail. When we first entered Williamsburg we met the crew at the Hilltop gas station there. They were quite enthusiastic about us dropping in.
We were picked up in Williamsburg by Dan Ladrigan, filling in for Ky while she was getting the hatch repaired on her van. We first met Dan at the Northeast Lions Club talk I gave a week ago and he invited us then to stay at his home. His wife Lin was at work when we got to their home. Some people bake cakes, Lin knitted us scarves when she knew we were coming. She used the official Lions Club colors. How thoughtful! She also wrote a kind note to us that referred to Ky as our daughter. I’ve gone from the father of Cindy, who at least is younger than me, to Ky, a year older. I always thought long distance hiking made you younger.
Dan prepared Cincinnati chili for us. In addition to perhaps a few unique spices, the distinguishing feature of Cincinnati chili is being placed on spaghetti. It looked for awhile like we would pass through Cincinnati without ever tasting their famous chili. Dan came to the rescue.

Hi Guys,
I want to thank you for posting the picture of my handsome man and your scarf… I am really sorry to have missed your visit… I hope you all slept well and hope the animals did not keep you up…
You take care and keep warm, which I know the scarfs will do that for you… They are such a funny shape… But you have to do what the dreams tell you to do…
God Bless and I hope we meet again
Lin
Greetings Lin,
Thanks for the scarfs. Dan will just have to take you to Connecticut someday.
