North Bend to Cincinnati; Distance = 18 Miles; People Met = 10+
The day started out with us surprising Pastor Bob Cannon of Lawrenceburg’s United Methodist Church. He did not get the message from the church that we would be sleeping on the floor there. Once we gave him time to get over the shock we had a nice chat about some of the good stuff that church does. Being near the outer extension of I275 they are accustomed to vagrants coming by and we were not the first to sleep on their floor. They want to acquire a nearby property for housing people passing through who are down on their luck.
They also host the High Hopes community meals on Wednesday. They’ve recently persuaded a church in the area to provide a community meal on Tuesday and they hope to get enough churches involved to provide a community meal every day of the week. I’m going to mention this to Pastor Steve from the church we stayed at the day before.
On our first break we stopped in at Jeff’s Drive Thru Marathon near Addyston in order to use the restrooms. We created a bit of a stir. Linda was about to buy a lottery ticket and she chose number 264, corresponding to how many days we’ve been on the trail. Roseanna, who sold her the ticket, treated us to hot chocolate. She would have treated us to more if we wanted. Funny thing. People have been so kind on this journey we are no longer as covetous of food. Kindness has cured me of gluttony!
Our route called for taking the Anderson Ferry across the Ohio River to Kentucky, walking along KY 8, and coming back into Cincinnati, OH via the Roebling Suspension Bridge. While on the Kentucky side we ran into Rodney and Tara, who had seen us on TV some time ago; our Evansville media coverage still at work through shared footage.
We met Ky at the bridge and she brought us to the Transfiguration Spirituality Center where we will be staying the next four days. Since we will be here for awhile I’ll expound on our stay at a later time.
