Rocheport to McBaine; Distance = 9 Miles; People Met = 12+
John came out to hike with us in the morning. I found out that our favorite colors are tree colors and that we independently came up with the same idea for a calendar (stay tuned, the idea is so good I don’t want anyone else to know just yet). He carried binoculars with him and pointed out osprey fishing on the far banks of the Missouri River, as well as an immature bald eagle.
We spent the afternoon at the brewery pub that John helped to build and where he works once a week as a bartender. Broadway Brewery features the kind of lively and diverse atmosphere you would expect in a college town such as Columbia. Much of the food is from local sources and tasted great. I had the beer sampler and the variety and quality reminded me of a fine local brewery near us, in Great Barrington. We met the owners Kenny and Becky while we were there and he lamented we came at a bad time to be interviewed by local radio, which Kenny also is involved in. He comped us our meal instead.
The day was capped by us attending a Saturday evening service at the Columbia UCC. This was something new started by Pastor Steve Swope, who both led the service and provided music. We joined in communion and shared a little bit about our journey and cause.

Hey Kirk, I thought your mission was all about sharing? Surely you aren’t going to have all of those drinks yourself!
