Day 206 – 12/16/11 – Katy Trail

Boonville to Rocheport; Distance = 12 Miles; People Met = 2

We parted company with the three people we met in Boonville.  We stayed in the home of Pastor Judy Fiocco and her husband Larry Jones for two nights, pooling our food resources together for supper on the second night and chatting around the kitchen table into the evening.  Pastor Judy felt a connection with Cindy, describing her as “glowing.”

After dinner we participated in an advent wreath lighting ceremony as well, sharing Wows (something good that happened), Pows (something bad) and Hows (how God affected our lives that day).  All in all, we parted company having shared deeply with each other.

The third delightful person I parted company with was the secretary for Pastor Judy’s UCC Church, Theresa.  She had the dual role of reporter for the local newspaper and interviewed me for a good while.  I felt like we were on the same wavelength the whole time as she responded to my information with similar observations of her own.  Theresa was, in fact, one of three interviews for me that morning, the other two being “phoners” from radio stations across the country.  I may get clips from those interviews up on the site soon.

Leaving Boonville we began our leg of the journey on the Katy Trail, the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad now turned bike path.  I thought the bike path would be paved, but it mostly was gravel … and flat … and scenic.  Cardinals and black birds flitted around us for much of the way.  An added bonus was the weather turning nice again for the first time in four days.

The highlights of the Katy Trail, at least for the portion heading out of Boonville, were the limestone bluffs lining the way.  Sometimes they edged the trail, even forming a steep overhang.  I foresee another facebook photo album in the future.  As we neared our destination of Rocheport the trail tunneled through a hill, making it a great place for echoes.

At the end of the day we met and stayed with an extended family member on the Sinclair side, John Hooker.  Though we just met we were family and treated each other that way.  John’s girlfriend Staci came over to visit with us as well and we had what amounted to a little “family gathering” for the first time on our journey.  Of course, another reason we hit it off was that John actually had a copy of my book Systems out of Balance and was reading it.

I suspect route finding won't be a problem with the Katy Trail

The floods are epic in Missouri

Do they run with scissors in this town?

Kathy Trail was flooded in this area in June when I was walking in this area.

      Greetings Jim,
Yeah, we’ve been fortunate in that our only highwater experience was, ironically, in Nevada. Merry Christmas.
