Given recent events, we targeted Colorado Mesa University for our destination in Grand Junction. We walked through the campus with full packs on and things began to happen. Michelle, an instructor for a social work class, asked what we were doing and then invited us to speak to her class on Wednesday.
The Outdoor Program seemed like a good place for us to go to. As we neared their building we were approached by the person who turned out to be the leader of the program, Dr. Chad Thatcher. It was not long before we were in office, finding out we had an extraordinary amount in common, and scheduled to give their first “Wednesday Night Wanderings” program in two nights.
In the evening we dined with RoseAnn, whom Ky had met while approaching the UCC Church in Grand Junction for a place to keep her camper. RoseAnn was enthusiastic about the idea of communities doing things with each other, and contributed some ideas of her own that I’ll share on here eventually. After dinner we went to the EconoLodge, where the Grand Junction Lions Club was kindly housing us for the night. We got to meet Jeff Baker there, the Lions Club president. Besides being a very tall man he was as congenial a guy as you would ever like to meet.
With three different talks ahead in Grand Junction it promised to be a busy and fruitful rest stop.
