Distance = 19 Miles; People Met = 6
We really met more than 6 people, because a Bike & Build group went by us today. Since I’m on the board of the local Habitat affiliate I’m familiar with this program. A group of twenty or so young adults commit a fixed sum to the program; they also stop to assist with builds occasionally as they make their way across the country on bicycles. Once I talked to the ones in the front I knew what all the others were up to. Likewise, bikers in the rear had spoken to Ky. Thus we were hailing each other as we approached.
The landscape continued to be striking, at least for two folks from Connecticut, but more stark. It dawned on me for the first time what others often say: we are indeed seeing this country like few people do. Capitol Gorge was spectacular, but that’s a destination that tourists will see. The Utah landscape we saw today will only be viewed by a few.
In the evening we stayed at Luna Mesa with Don Del Monte. He started from Kentucky and rode his horse across the country for suicide prevention. Don lays over at times and was caretaking Luna Mesa, an all purpose pit stop along Route 24, for the owners as they attended a reunion.
