Day 032 – 6/25/11 Sand Springs to Middlegate Station

Distance > 25.5 Miles; Elevation Change > 1650 Feet
Lo Elevation = 3954; Hi Elevation = 4642

The entire day involved hiking on US 50, the loneliest highway in America.  There is not much to report on, except for a sampling of vehicles I did over the last few miles.  While regular sized vehicles from subcompacts to minivans were the most numerous, trucks and vans were a close second, motorcycles were in third place, while commercial trucks and campers were virtually tied for last with about one third the amount of motorcycles.  The mind has to do something on an endless highway.

The highlight was Middlegate Station, which consists mainly of a bar and trailers.  The bar is run by three generations of the same family.  We were there for the Saturday all-you-can-eat Bikers Barbecue.

Entertainment was provided by the band, The Fillmore Zone.  The drummer for the band, Jack, took an interest in us and chatted with us about everything from auctions to the Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City, famous for bands performing on acid.
