The night before I had a good talk with Gordon about some of the problems our country faces with civic involvement and that helped me prepare for the talk at the Lions Club luncheon. There were about ten Lions there and I was surprised at just how attentive they all were, asking me questions the whole time.
Two Lions came up to talk with me afterwards and buy my book. Joe Fesca had asked a few good questions during the talk and revealed his passion for volunteerism and community involvement. Bob Farmer was the oldest Lion there and mentioned how the Club had recently become revitalized and infused with young blood. Bob grew up in the Adirondacks back East and shared some of his experiences. It was a good start to the public speaking phase of this journey.
That night we stayed with the church secretary for Parkside Community Church, which we walked by on our route the day before. Teri Guida treated us royally, with the best part being the lively and enjoyable conversation over the dinner table.
With this and other church contacts along the road our home church in Norfolk has been an invaluable resource serving as a reference. Thanks Erick, Verna and Tina!
