Day 012 – 6/5/11 – Locke to Freeport

Distance = 20 Miles; Elevation Change > 50 Feet
Lo Elevation = 0; Hi Elevation = 16

Certainly the lack of elevation change would suggest that today was easy.  Yet pounding pavement for 20 miles with a full pack takes it toll on the feet, not to mention the downer of leaving a town like Locke.  I said to Cindy:  “you know what this town reminds me of?” and Cindy replied:  “Pie Town,” from our Continental Divide journey.  There are few town stops as special as Pie Town … or Locke.

Our evening’s destination provided quite a contrast.  We could not camp along the levee on the west side, which is why we went further than we planned.  We were told to try a golf course in Freeport, but we were turned down there.  We ended up finding an obscure spot by an abandoned rail bed.

The bright spot to the day was running into quite a few people that I gave my card.  One of them later posted pictures she took of us to my facebook fan page.
