Day 010 – 6/3/11 – Antioch to Locke

Distance = 31.22 Miles; Elevation Change > 135 Feet
Lo Elevation = -2; Hi Elevation = 135

We started out with an “ascent” over the Antioch bridge, which rises up 135 feet.  Other than that, we hiked mainly on levee roads with an occasional dip below sea level.  Because of a forecast of yet more rain on Saturday we combined two days into one, putting in our first thirty-miler.

We ended up in the community of Locke, which started out as a small, ten acre Chinese enclave.  Brock Alexander, teacher and artist, put us up in an empty apartment that he will soon rent out.  The ceramic work, paintings and sculpture done by Brock for the apartment are truly amazing.  I’ll include some photos of it in a facebook photo album.

Brock is also putting together his Winestone Wasley Art Gallery and Moon Café, which should be ready to open by this time next year.  He’s invited me to perform at it.  We’ll see.
