We began our climb of Mount Diablo today. Though it’s by far the most prominent feature in the area, allegedly used by surveyors as a base for surveying California, we never saw the summit. The closer we approached the more we were enveloped in clouds and rain. Two women out riding their horses invited us to dinner at their nearby ranch. We declined because it was early in the day and we thought the next day would be tough enough without playing more catch up. Boy, were we right!
