One of the exciting aspects of the planning logistics for our PCT hike as the time nears is learning about friends and family who will come out and hike with us.
Mike Hinckley and friend Jill will be joining us in Oregon and Mike will continue on with us for a couple months, at least until Mojave. Mike hiked both the Appalachian Trail and Continental Divide Trail with us. Like Cindy he is only missing the Pacific Crest Trail piece of the Triple Crown. He aims to come back and complete what he doesn’t do with us.
Dave Beffa-Negrini, my first real backpacking buddy and best man at our wedding, will join us for a few days in northern California, along with his wife and good college friend of mine Patsy. They will be using it as training for a hike of Kilimanjaro they are planning. Perhaps I can even get Marty Marcus, who hiked with both Dave and me on the AT in 1975, to come out to visit during that same time.
Good hiking buddies Gwen Jones and Paula Mueller aim to come out as well at some point. Gwen was the trail angel supreme for us as we passed through West Virginia during our recent American Discovery Trail journey. Our nephew Tom out on the California coast started off the ADT hike with us; he hopes to join us for a day or two on this journey as well, as does his son Ben.
