I came across a kindness survey in China with very familiar results according to my own experiences.
86.7% of respondents say there are willing to be kind to strangers. The evidence of kindness to strangers overwhelmingly supports this expression of willingness.
On the other hand only 20.4% of respondents report seeing kindness to strangers around them. This has a familiar ring to what we experienced in the eastern United States, where a few times people were telling us about how people were not kind even as they were bestowing us charity.
We are kinder than we think, but we need to raise those expectations of kindness in ourselves to move forward with humanity.
